Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays serve as an in-between for fillings and crowns. When a tooth is broken down too much to place a filling, but not enough to merit a crown, it can be a great treatment option. Like crowns, inlays and onlays are cemented permanently into the tooth.

An inlay is made to be placed inside the cusps of the teeth, while an onlay extends a little further to cover some or all of the cusps. They can be made with gold or porcelain, although most patients prefer the natural appearance of porcelain.
