Extractions

Extractions are done when saving a tooth is not an option and are considered by dentists to be a last resort for treatment. Many conditions can lead to the necessity of removing a tooth. Decay or damage extending to the root of the tooth is one example, while severe bone loss due to periodontal disease is another. Even if it is not hurting, it is always a good idea to remove teeth with these conditions as any active infection can spread and cause problems in other parts of the oral cavity and beyond.

Majority of extractions are done in our office, however some are referred to an oral surgeon if they are more difficult. Impacted wisdom teeth are a prime example of this; depending on their condition they may have to be referred.
